The children of Hillcrest Baptist Church have a place to call their own. Our Children’s Ministry is a place of wonder and discovery as children learn Bible truths. One of our goals for each week is to create an environment that would be both educational and entertaining. We are inspired to make every class “the best hour in a child's week”. We want to capture your child’s imagination, intrigue them and set them on a course of discovery toward their Lord and Savior. We have several Ministries here at Hillcrest:
Jr. Church
Jr. Church is an hour long, full steam ahead, adventure. Every month in Jr. Church we are experiencing a different foundational theme. This month we are focusing on Salvation. No other foundations can be formed without salvation first. This years’ "12 Must Knows" series is going to build the foundations for kids and their future.
Many things are changing right now in our Children's Ministries, especially in Jr. Church. One of our goals is to teach our kids as much about the Bible as we can. Our kids are learning monthly memory verses that are repeated every week. We also have added something new to our Children's Ministry altogether, Baptist Distinctive. What is a Baptist Distinctive? These are doctrines that we hold that separate us from other religions. Can our kids understand these things? They already are! When you make a challenge for a kid, they will exceed above and beyond. One of the things I'm excited about also is the introduction of our new puppets soon. If you are interested in joining our Jr. Church program come and see me.
January is kicking off our "12 Must Knows" yearlong series. We are spending this whole month on the subject " Jesus is the only way to Heaven". We are going to hit questions like "why is He the only way to Heaven", "why are we chosen above all of God’s creation to be given this choice", "how to receive salvation, when was the first time salvation was needed", "what happens after salvation”, and many more.
Baptist Distinctive
- B - Biblical Authority: The Bible tells us what to do
- A - Autonomy of the Local Church: Our church runs itself
- P - Priesthood of Believers: We can personally talk to God
- T - Two Ordinances: God's church should practice The Lord's Supper without alcohol and Baptism by Immersion
- I - Individual Soul Liberty: We choose what we believe in
- S - Saved, Baptized Church Membership: You must be saved first, then baptized into the God's Church to be a member
Sunday School
Sunday School is the most important discipleship class and is a special time for kids to get together with their own age group to help them grow spiritually. The departments are divided up by grades. The 1st and 2nd grade form a class that specifically is geared to teach basic foundational bible knowledge. They are beginning to learn the books of the Bible along with other foundational truths. The 3rd and 4th grade department is the next step in the ladder of spiritual growth and knowledge. They are an exciting class that is being challenged weekly to achieve a better Christian life. The 5th and 6th graders are the most active group we have in our Children’s Ministry. The 6th graders are allowed to go every year to our summer camp at Silver State Baptist Youth Camp in Colorado. This class is important because they are about to face several big changes in their life.
Patch The Pirate Club
Patch the Pirate is our Wednesday Night class. The kids take part in the many adventures of Patch the Pirate. Kids are challenged weekly to show their weekly devotions and memory verses. They participate and perform in skits and songs in front of the church body every 5th week. It is such a blessing to see kids singing and serving for the Lord.
Amazing Bees Club
Amazing Bees is similar to Patch the Pirate Club, except it is aimed at 4 and 5 year-olds.
